Canyon Cody is an outernational hip-hop producer, ethnomusicologist and global music DJ.
In 2008, he was a Fulbright Scholar in Spain studying the effects of immigration on flamenco and Arab-Andalusian music.
As part of his Fulbright project, Canyon Cody organized Granada Doaba, a creative experiment in instrumental hip-hop that explores the possibilities of multicultural collaboration and fusion. Co-produced by underground rapper Gnotes, Granada Doaba features 16 musicians from around the world who are all currently living in Spain.
On April 21 2009, Granada Doaba will be released as a free download, registered copyleft for rampant bootlegging and non-commerical remixing.
Born in Hollywood after his family fled from Cuba, Canyon Cody started DJing at Boston College, where he majored in Global Culture [literature in exile, diasporic music + immigrant art].
In 2003, Canyon Cody started Gnawledge Records to promote local + global music, particularly electronic/analog fusions. Canyon Cody has since produced six commericial releases from multi-instrumentalist rappers Gnotes, Elemental ZazenandAfro DZ ak.
